JOHANNESBURG – The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has appointed Sy Mamabolo as its Chief Electoral Officer.
Mamabolo has been appointed for a 5-year term, effective from 1 October.
Mamabolo will replace former CEO Mosotho Moepya after he didn’t renew his contract.

“The Electoral Commission is confident Mr Mamabolo’s extensive electoral management experience within the Electoral Commission as well as a multitude of international assignments, and his strong working relationship with all key stakeholders will ensure the necessary vision, leadership and continuity in meeting the objectives and mandate of the Electoral Commission,” IEC said in a statement.
