Two officers of the Scottburgh SAPS were patrolling the Scottburgh near the CBD this morning, 19 July. They saw two men carrying some items covered in black plastic near the Scottburgh taxi rank. The policemen approached them and saw that they were carrying a pedestal fan, a microwave oven and a kettle. When questioned by the policeman, they could not give a reasonable explanation for how they had come to be in possession of the three items. They gave conflicting stories and this made the officers suspicious.
The two arrested suspects aged 18 and 25 respectively, were promptly arrested and detained pending their first court appearance in the Scottburgh Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 20 July on a charge of being in possession of suspected stolen property. Police are investigating further to establish where the property may have been taken from.
Major General Sethenya Nxamagele, the UGU Cluster Commander praised Constables Nxumalo and Mbhele for their excellent work. “I urge all our members to be as alert and observant and look for criminals on our streets. These members were able to arrest these suspects and recover the property solely because they were vigilant during their routine patrols.”, said the General.
